Edge banding hot melt adhesive is a specialized type of thermoplastic adhesive specifically formulated for the edge banding process in woodworking and furniture making. This adhesive is designed to bond edge bands - thin strips of material such as PVC, ABS, melamine, or wood veneer - to the edges of particleboard, MDF, or other similar materials.
EVA (Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate) and PUR (Polyurethane Reactive) hot melt glues are widely used in the edge banding process in the woodworking and furniture industries.
EVA hot melt glue is popular for its ease of use and rapid setting time. It offers good adhesion to a variety of edge band materials like PVC, ABS, and veneer. EVA glues melt at lower temperatures and create a strong bond quickly, making them efficient for high-volume production lines. However, they are less resistant to heat and moisture compared to PUR.
PUR hot melt glue, on the other hand, is known for its superior bond strength and excellent resistance to heat, moisture, and solvents. When applied, PUR reacts with moisture in the air, forming a strong, cross-linked bond that enhances durability and longevity. This makes it ideal for high-end furniture and cabinetry requiring long-lasting edge bonds. PUR glues are more expensive than EVA but offer enhanced performance in demanding environments.
Both EVA and PUR hot melt glues are essential in edge banding for creating a seamless and durable finish, with the choice between them depending on the specific requirements of the application, such as resistance to environmental factors and the desired strength of the bond.
